By Kevin Barrett, http://www.truthjihad.com 1) By all accounts I am an excellent teacher. * I was called an "excellent teacher" by the conservative U.W.-Madison Badger Herald during my fall 2006 semester teaching under the media spotlight: http://www.truthjihad.com/students_barrett_excellent.htm * A lengthy mainstream newspaper article about my classroom performance said I "put students at ease" and offered "no conspiracy theories." The article quoted students who gave my teaching performance good reviews: http://www.truthjihad.com/barrett_puts_students_at_ea.htm and http://www.truthjihad.com/barrett_puts_students2.htm * The conservative U.W.-Madison Badger Herald ran an article at the end of the fall 2006 semester quoting students giving my teaching performance high marks: http://badgerherald.com/news/2007/02/13/students_hand_barret.php 2) Despite being an excellent teacher, I have apparently been blacklisted from the University of Wisconsin, and probably other U.S. universities as well, on account of my personal political views and/or religious identity. * Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Dean of Letters and Sciences Howard Ross charges that in spring, 2006 I was denied a tenure-track job as professor of Arabic and Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater purely on the basis of my political views. Dr. Ross, who was involved in the hiring process, stated that I was clearly the best candidate for a tenure-track Arabic/Humanities job at U.W.-Whitewater in spring 2006 -- and then the only candidate after the other two finalists went elsewhere. Despite this, Ross asserts, I was turned down for the job, the position was closed, and students were offered no Arabic instruction, purely because some members of the hiring committee did not like my views on 9/11 and the so-called war on terror. Those views are the views of the majority of Muslims--roughly 60% of Muslims flatly state that Arabs did not carry out 9/11--suggesting that the majority of Muslim applicants cannot be considered for employment at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, even if they are far more qualified than other applicants. (Source: radio interview with Howard Ross, "The Dynamic Duo," GCN radio network, December 19th, 2007, 4-5 pm Central). * Since 2007 I have repeatedly applied for teaching positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including at least one for which I was clearly more qualified than the candidate who was given the job, yet have been denied all of those positions. Prior to 2007, I received almost every teaching position I applied for at U.W.-Madison since arriving there in 1995. Do the math: 1995-2006: applied for twelve teaching positions at U.W.-Madison (as lecturer or assistant); hired eleven times. 92% success rate. 2007-2009: applied for four teaching positions so far; turned down all four times. 0% success rate. What might explain this discrepancy? In the summer and fall of 2006 I was attacked by neconservatives for my personal political beliefs (not my teaching performance). Since then, I have not been rehired. Coincidence or conspiracy? You be the judge. 3) The campaign to force me out of the University of Wisconsin was spearheaded by a neoconservative "academic watchdog" group called the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) chaired by Lynne Cheney, the wife of the man I accused of directing the 9/11 false-flag attack. Working under Cheney on the ACTA board were well-known neoconservatives Irving Kristol and Laurence Silberman. ACTA attempted to intimidate the University of Wisconsin, and by example other universities, writing "To avoid future controversies like the one involving Barrett, I hope you and your fellow regents will insist that the institutions you oversee develop measures for ensuring the excellence and integrity of UW's curriculum." The controversy, of course, had been created by neocon Republicans themselves, in the persons of State Rep. Steve Nass, radio host Jessica McBride, and whoever was behind them. (http://www.truthjihad.com/ACTA_letter.htm, http://www.truthjihad.com/ACTA_letter_2.htm) 4) While much of the media, especially Fox News, provided an echo-chamber for ACTA and Nass, I received considerable support from the public. The only poll on the affair found that 64% of respondents sided with me, while only 11% agreed with Nass that I should be fired. (http://www.truthjihad.com/ch3000_poll.htm) Editorial cartoons (http://www.truthjihad.com/cartoon.htm) and letters to the editor (http://www.truthjihad.com/letters_11_06.htm) supported my case. 5) I have apparently been blacklisted from the University of Wisconsin due to my views of 9/11, yet not one University of Wisconsin professor has accepted my standing offer, and repeated specific challenges, to debate the issue. *After U.W.-Madison Political Science professor Donald Downs called my views of 9/11 "absurd" and suggested I should be turned down for future teaching positions because of those views, I engaged in email correspondence with him and repeatedly challenged him to a public debate. He repeatedly declined. *In fall 2006, the UW-Madison History Club tried to find one or more professors to debate me on 9/11, but none accepted. "UHA President Eli Persky said his intention in inviting Barrett and Fetzer to the meeting was to put them in a debate against UW political science and history professors. But the plan fell through, he said, because the other professors were unable to attend. 'We contacted more [professors] than we normally would have needed to,' Persky said, guessing he had invited 'more than half a dozen' faculty members. 'There were lots of previous engagements,' UHA Vice President Sandra Brasda said." http://badgerherald.com/news/2006/10/06/barrett_goes_for_rou.php *After I was invited to speak at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the Oshkosh Northwestern ran an editorial pleading with professors to debate me and put my "conspiracy theories" to rest. (Original url, since taken down: http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061004/ OSH06/610040382/1190/OSHopinion Archived at http://www.mujca.com/northwestern.htm) Not one professor at Oshkosh, Madison, Whitewater, or any other U.W. campus accepted the plea, or my repeated requests for a debate or panel discussion. * When U.W.-Madison Law Professor Ann Althouse attacked and insulted me as comparable to a "white supremacist" or "Holocaust denier" for my views of 9/11, I publicly and privately requested a debate, and was brusquely refused. Many letter writers to Wisconsin newspapers criticized Althouse for insulting me based on my views, yet refusing to debate those views. http://www.truthjihad.com/althouse.htm, http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-174095538.html, http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=104540 5) I ran for Congress in 2008 to "push back at the politicians" who had gotten me blacklisted from academia. http://www.madison.com/tct/opinion/285341 I stressed the issues of civil liberties, the economy, the need to end the war, 9/11 truth, and the need to restore the Constitution: http://www.barrettforcongress.us/issues.htm My campaign commissioned a scientific poll showing that 33% of likely voters in my district either thought that the World Trade Center was demolished with explosives, or that we need an investigation to find out; and that 79% of voters nationally wanted to bail out homeowners rather than bankers. http://www.barrettforcongress.us/pressreleases.htm My campaign drew a primary challenger, Ben Olson. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=214510 It may have been the first time the Libertarian Party had had a primary election for Congress in Wisconsin. Olson's main reason for challenging me was not my 9/11 truth-seeking, which he does not oppose, but rather his opposition to my call for single-payer health care. (Baraboo News-Republic, "Libertarians Debate in Run-Up to Sept. 9th Primary Election," 8/28/08, http://www.truthjihad.com/riverboat_debate_8_28_08.jpg) I was endorsed by former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura on the eve of the primary: I won the Libertarian primary with 60% of the vote (incorrectly given as 59% at http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/09/barrett-leads-olson-with-64-tallied/) Incumbent Congressman Ron Kind, who had agreed to debate me early in the campaign http://www.takebackwashington.com/articles/press-release-kevin-barrett.html finally kept his promise and debated me, and Republican candidate Paul Stark, at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. http://edtech-media.uwlax.edu/UWLMediaSite/Viewer/Viewers/Viewer640.aspx?mode=Default&peid=eec52ed3-1d63-4c88-9d17-0d839198864a&pid=10b55ce2-1c2d-4b98-95c4-db8d2b63cb6e&playerType=SL1 6) Quotes (these are far more interesting than the ones currently up, which obviously were cherry-picked to make me look bad) " I am often asked the question: If government agents really did blow the World Trade Center to kingdom come, fly a military plane and/or missile into the Pentagon, create an illusion of suicide hijackings, and then cover the whole thing up...how in the world could they get away with it? Are the Bush Boyz really that smart? My answer, though I am usually too polite to say it, is: No, it isn’t that they’re that smart—it’s that you’re that stupid." (Truth Jihad 37) "The neoconservatives are Zionist extremists and cult followers of the demented philosopher-guru Leo Strauss, whose worldview can be summed up in the adage 'if you can't beat Hitler, join him.'" (Truth Jihad, 176) "The neocon madmen, unlike their precursors of the Kissinger-Strangelove generation, are postmodern lunatics: They are self-conscious about their own insanity." (Truth Jihad 137) "9/11...was a psy-op on a scale of murderousness and mendacity to make the Reichstag Fire look like a kid playing with matches." (Truth Jihad 177) "9/11 truth offers the ordinary person of good will an unprecedented opportunity to change history for the better." (Truth Jihad 177) "Civilization as we know it is largely the creation of psychopaths." ("Twilight of the Psychopaths") "As a leading 'conspiracy theorist' according to Wikipedia, I feel eminently qualified to offer an alternative conspiracy theory which, like the alternative conspiracy theory of 9/11, is both simpler and more accurate than the prevailing wisdom: The only conspiracy that matters is the conspiracy of the psychopaths against the rest of us." ("Twilight of the Psychopaths") 7) More Information Potentially Worthy of Inclusion I hold three M.A. degrees (in English Literature, French Literature, and African Languages and Literature) as well as a Ph.D. in African Languages and Literature, with Arabic as my main language, an Islamic Studies focus, and a Folklore minor.
